The same idea is at the heart of Samuel Huntington’s thesis in The Clash of Civilizations and the remaking of world order (1996). Huntington says that people’s cultural and religious identities (not just national but within the same “civilization”) will be the primary source of conflict in the post-Cold War world. Huntington divides the world into nine major separate “civilizations” – Western, Orthodox, Islamic, Buddhist, Hindu, African, Latin American, Sinic (Chinese), Japanese.
The multicultural ideology that has infested the West in recent decades denies the importance of “cultural glue” in human history and thinks the world can all be happy if we just sit around singing Kumbaya. Deluded extremists rabbit on about all cultures being equal – despite the stark evidence that this is not so. And most people with common sense know that this is not so. As Ayaan Hirsi Ali, born in Somalia, writes in Nomad (2010):
Here is something I have learned the hard way, but which a lot of well-meaning people in the West have a hard time accepting: All human beings are equal, but all cultures and religions are not. A culture that celebrates femininity and considers women to be the masters of their own lives is better than a culture that mutilates girls’ genitals and confines them behind walls and veils or flogs and stones them for falling in love. . . . The culture of the Western Enlightenment is better.
In fact, the multiculturalism of globalists and indiscriminate refugee advocates is simply facilitated invasion. Since Angela Merkel engineered the greatest catastrophe to hit Europe since the Second World War, Europe has been racked with mass protests against the tsunami of culturally unassimilable people from North Africa and elsewhere in the Muslim world. The monstrously overbearing EU has been turning on some of its own members (Hungary, Poland and others) as they take a stand to protect national cultural sovereignty.
The Swedish election of Sunday 9 September, 2018 produced a hung Parliament split almost exactly evenly between a coalition of the left (41.6%, 144 seats) and the alliance of the right (40.9%, 143 seats). The anti-immigration and anti-EU Sweden Democrats lifted their vote to 17.9% (62 seats – up from 49).
The mainstream media and the commentariat demonize parties like the Sweden Democrats as “extreme right”, as they do Marine le Pen in France, Geert Wilders in the Netherlands, the resurgent Alternative for Germany (AfD) in Germany and One Nation in Australia.
Throughout Europe, immigration from North Africa and the Middle East has been toxic. And in Australia, rampages by African gangs in Melbourne are also worrying local populations, as is crime and non-assimilation by other, especially Muslim, ethnic groups.
Australia is experiencing an ongoing debate about immigration. There are three elements to this: total numbers (concerns about impact on the environment, including demand for water); where they go (infrastructure in Sydney and Melbourne is hard pressed to cope); and composition of immigration – the cultural values that some migrants bring with them. The last of these is not racism but reasonable concern of ordinary people for social cohesion and community safety.
The established political parties here, as in Europe, are bleeding millions of votes to minor parties as more and more people believe that the major parties are not listening to their concerns and are fobbing them off with politically correct “multiculturalism and diversity” nonsense and globalist agendas that undermine our national sovereignty. This is marginalizing the native Anglo-Celtic core which founded, pioneered, built and defended the modern Australian nation, and hugely alienates many. In addition, militant and very explicitly anti-Christian secularism is destroying the cultural underpinning of Australia – and other Western nations – leaving us open to cultural pessimism and loss of unifying national identity.
Mass immigration from the Muslim world also imports virulent anti-semitism, including into Australia. In an article in The Australian on 14 September 2018, Henry Ergas reported that a study released that week by France’s prestigious Institut Montaigne found that up to 30 per cent of young French Muslims frequented websites that routinely preached ethnic separateness, disdain for the West and hatred of Jews. It is imperative that we face up to the problems caused by unassimilable immigration, and not deny them – as the leftists running the benighted state of Victoria do, choosing to demonize Peter Dutton rather than name criminal gangs.
Ergas writes:
No democracy can survive without a reasonable degree of cultural homogeneity. Our whole political system presupposes a people so fundamentally united that they can argue passionately yet live harmoniously; and so committed to shared values of mutual respect that no police state is needed to prevent civil order from collapsing into lawlessness.
Lose that glue, and Sweden awaits.
